What Is The DEC?

The Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) of Orange County is the official representative body of registered Democrats in Orange County and is governed by the State of Florida and the Florida Democratic Party. DEC members serve as the “Democratic voice” of their constituency in the precinct that they represent.

The OCDEC has supervisory power and jurisdiction over Democratic Party affairs in Orange County, Florida, including party officers, candidates, committees, commissions, clubs, and elected Democratic officials.

The DEC of Orange County meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at a location within Orange County. Current meeting location can be found by viewing the calender on this site. Guests are welcome.

Membership Types, Requirements & Meetings

The Orange County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) is comprised of two elected representatives from each precinct within Orange County, one man and one woman, for a four-year term commencing the first month after a presidential election. These Elected members serve as Precinct Captains and are responsible for the coordination of campaign activities, voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts within their precinct. These members possess full rights, privileges and responsibilities of membership. They may serve as officers of the DEC and are granted full voting rights. Attendance at the monthly meetings is required.

Additionally, the Chair of the DEC may appoint At Large members in order to achieve political, minority, economic, or other necessary representation within the county committee. These members have voting and other privileges of membership with the exception that they shall not serve as officers. Their appointment is for a one-year term, expiring on December 31st of the year of appointment other than in presidential election years when they expire on November 30th.

Automatic members include all registered Democrats who hold elective office in the State, County or Municipal government in Orange County and presidents of duly chartered democratic clubs within the county. These members hold full rights, privileges and responsibilities of membership with the exceptions that they do not serve as officers of the DEC, are not counted as members for purposes of determining a quorum, and are exempt from attendance requirements.

There are currently several openings at the precinct level for Elected positions. For more information, contact us at orangedemocrats@gmail.com .

Officers and Committees

The Executive Board is composed of the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Board Member at Large Man & Woman, State Committee Man & Woman and standing committee chairs.

The DEC has 10 standing committees. Read more about them on the Committees page.

At the OCDEC, one of our most important missions is to provide opportunities for local democrats that respond to our local community. These committees help us address questions and determine what the democratic candidates and voters in Orange County are looking for and what kind of support they need as candidates, voters and volunteers.

These Committees are made up of concerned citizens like you, who can provide a unique perspective and an activist viewpoint in the process.

Through your involvement, the OCDEC can be a very active organization and will help develop and strengthen the democratic presence in Orange County. Also, committees create a close, cooperative relationship between elected officials, citizens and constintuency groups within the community.

We would welcome and appreciate your serving on a committee.
